Tasks involved in airport facility management

Airport facility management is a very complex task when compared to other facility management. There are many tasks involved in airport facility management. Management of facilities that involve, air cargo handling, air traffic services, airport systems services, aircraft services, field equipments, airport asset management services, aviation lighting services, employing personnel for all these tasks, baggage handling facilities management, parking services, catering services, sanitation, ground services and support, runway facilities, access control, power systems, and ultrasonic equipments require special skills.

Getting the right personnel for the right job is itself a tedious task. Training of personnel is done regularly so that they can be involved in the place of other person in case of emergency. There are lots of assets available for an airport and all these have to be tracked and used efficiently. Allocating staff for all these services it a tedious task. Without proper software you might not know which is person is working for which department.

 

Terminal services and air traffic management is another area where there is a need for a software. The terminals that are free need to be allotted for the coming air traffic. Once a terminal allotted, the associated facilities for that terminal would be active at that time.

 

All the personnel involved should be tracked. Allocating personnel for such tasks would be done through the software. Access control would be in place so that people coming from that terminal would be using certain facilities that are available in that terminal alone. Catering for the incoming and outgoing traffic is also needed apart from the in-house catering for the airport. These facilities are also to be maintained.

 

Outsourcing such facilities management in an airport is done with care. The contractor or the vendor is evaluated for the experience they have in airport facilities management and then they are awarded the contract for facilities management. Outsourcing improves the productivity of the airport employees since they can focus on their core business.
